Appointments last 60 minutes and usually take place once a week.

Do I need to prepare anything before the first appointment?
I will send you some questionnaires for you to complete before your first appointment. This is an efficient way of gathering a lot of information about you. The questionnaires I use are also validated and reliable. This means that they give a standardised and clinically accurate picture of your difficulties and their severity.

One of the questionnaires I use, the CORE Outcome Measure, captures a snapshot of your situation before therapy begins. We can then use this at different stages of the therapy and at the end of therapy to determine whether therapy is working. The CORE questionnaire gives us a “before” and “after” picture so that we have a statistically reliable and clinically valid way of assessing the effectiveness of your therapy.
What happens next?
The first appointment is an opportunity for you to tell me about your situation and for us to gain a shared understanding of your difficulties and what you want from therapy. If, as a result of the assessment, I consider that I am not able to offer appropriate psychotherapy I will discuss with you other sources of help and support. The first session also gives you an opportunity to meet me and learn about how I work so that you can decide whether or not you would like further sessions with me. After the first session you are under no obligation to attend further appointments.
