I have 24 years of experience as a UK psychologist, working in the NHS and in private practice and with a range of organisations and charities.
I am experienced as a psychotherapist and psychologist and I specialise in working with trauma. This may be recent trauma such as road traffic collisions, industrial accidents and experiences in combat or complex trauma including childhood physical and sexual abuse or attachment trauma.
I also work with people experiencing anxiety, stress, phobias, bullying, agoraphobia, panic, depression (including post-natal depression), irritability, sleep disturbance, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, difficulties with assertiveness, mood swings, irritability, bereavement, loss, abortion, miscarriage, divorce and relationship break-ups.
I have worked with people who have issues relating to identity, sexuality, relationship difficulties, family conflict, and neglect, work related issues, issues relating to spirituality, physical disability, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME, long-term illness, pain, and physical illness for which there is no identified biological cause. I use a range of therapeutic approaches so that therapy is tailored to the needs of each person.
Personal Approach
I believe that a therapeutic relationship of trust and collaboration is at the heart of psychotherapy. Successful therapy involves finding a way of thinking together about whatever difficulties are present and discovering choices about possible ways forward. My work is informed by a knowledge of current research and what types of psychotherapy and interventions are effective for specific problems and ways of being in the world.
I consider that choice is very important and I therefore offer a range of therapies: EMDR, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy and Mindfulness. I also offer Clinical Supervision to a range of health professionals. I am committed to my own learning and Continuing Professional Development and attend additional trainings on a regular basis. I also seek feedback from clients and supervisees in order to improve and develop the service I offer.
