2 - Is this the right time for you to have a virtual ADHD Assessment?
Having an online assessment for ADHD is a significant decision. If you receive an ADHD diagnosis, it may change how you and other people see you now. It may change how you look back and think about your past: your childhood, time in school, how you achieved or struggled at college, university or in the workplace. It may alter how you view your past or current relationships. That process of seeing your past, present and future in a different way, can involve quite a lot of different emotions. So, it’s important to have the headspace to embark on that process. If you have a lot going on right now, in your work or home life, then is now the right time for you to have an Online Adult ADHD Assessment, or would it work better for you to wait for a while?

An online assessment, even though it saves travel time over meeting in person, also takes up a chunk of your time. Apart from the virtual meetings with me, I will also ask you to invite someone else to take part in your assessment. So, you will need time to talk to them about being involved in the assessment, and there will be some questionnaires and forms for you to fill in. My aim is to guide you through this process, answer your questions and make the assessment as straightforward and easy as possible for you. Many people give me feedback that they enjoy this process. They are very interested to learn and understand more about themselves and it’s often very helpful to have someone they know well who is involved in the assessment with them. However, you will still need to have some time to give to the assessment, so it's worth thinking about when will be a good time for you.

If you receive an ADHD diagnosis, then part of my work with you, will be about making recommendations and suggestions for the support and treatment you can access. This might include Coaching or Psychotherapy for ADHD, medication or joining a support group. It’s good to have the assessment at a moment in your life when you will have time and energy to give to engage in these activities or interventions. You don’t have to do them all at once! But again, you will need some time to make the best use of them.
If the outcome of the Online Adult ADHD Assessment is that you do not have ADHD, then you will need some time and space to adjust to that information. Just as if you had received an ADHD diagnosis, I will make recommendations of next steps for you. The recommendations might include further assessment to understand better and to identify what you are struggling with, they might also include psychotherapy or seeing your GP for referral for medical investigations. Again, the outcome of the assessment is likely to take some time and emotional energy, so it’s important to have the ADHD Assessment at a time that’s right for you.
ADHD Adult Assessment
If an adult, who thinks they may have ADHD, wants to ask for “reasonable adjustments” to be made by their employer, college or university, then they will need to have gone through an ADHD Assessment and received a formal diagnosis.
